How it all began
Back in 2012, Verigreen Co-Owner, Mike Maziya, came across a woman carrying a bundle of plastic waste on head. He asked what she was doing and the woman explained that she was unemployed and to make money gathered waste to sell in the hope of earning enough money to feed her children and send them to school.
This sparked Mike's interest as she was taking the plastic to one of Verigreen's recycling partners. That night, Mike relayed the woman's story to his wife and fellow co-owner, Thina Maziya, together they came up with an initiative that would enable these women to earn more substantial income, whilst empowering them as entrepreneurs in the recycling industry through knowledge, experience, and industry access.
Turning Waste Into Purpose
At Supa Mama®, our mission extends beyond producing sustainable products. It’s about creating opportunities for women who are eager to make a difference in their communities. Through recycling initiatives, these women don’t just collect waste—they gain valuable skills, become entrepreneurs, and are empowered to take control of their futures. The training they receive ensures that only uncontaminated, high-quality materials are sorted, graded, and transformed into products that carry the Supa Mama® stamp of sustainability.
These women, often the backbone of their households, find not only financial relief but a renewed sense of purpose through this program. By turning waste into a resource, they help protect the environment and improve their communities. Every collected item represents a step toward financial independence, a cleaner environment, and a cycle of good that benefits everyone involved.
By integrating these efforts into our production process, we’re able to close the loop on waste, diverting significant amounts of plastic from landfills and contributing to a thriving circular economy. For every Supa Mama® product purchased, you’re not only choosing quality and convenience, but you’re also supporting a cause that uplifts communities and turns waste into opportunity. Together, we can make a greener, more empowered future.
